Some Awesomeness

I learned about The Book of Awesome from Big Picture Classes. The intent is become aware of awesomeness in one's life.

Some call me an optimist. I don't agree. I think with the glass half full. Looking for awesomeness is a foreign idea to me.

Today is the start of the class. Here we go, I thought.

Tonight, this happened.

A while back, we wanted to rid our yard of trees.  “Two Free Nine Foot Cedar Trees – You Dig, You Load” was our Craig’s List ad.  A lady called right away. Although she lived a ways away, she traveled through our area frequently. She asked if we were willing to wait a few weeks for the tree removal. Not a problem was our reply.

Tonight, a beautiful, middle-aged Native American woman with a long black hair braided down her back arrived at our doorstep. She came with her nephew to dig up the trees. It was important for her to tell us that the trees would not have an ornamental use or block neighbor’s views. Instead, the trees would be re-planted and cared for with the utmost respect. For in the Native American culture, products of cedar trees are medicinal, keeping evil spirits away. Berries are crushed for salve. Branches, stripped of needles, are boiled to make tea.

The surprise of our unwanted trees finding a good home and re-purposed for the good of mankind –

AWESOME!
